The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta labelled the ‘Best in the West’, the Royal Regatta always lives up to its reputation with superb competition and brilliant entertainment. Thousands of visitors from the region, nation and indeed the world descend on Dartmouth every August for a packed three-day programme of air displays, sailing, sports, live music, street food, fireworks and more.
The centre of the Royal Regatta has always been the sailing, rowing and swimming. These sports have for several decades been supplemented by tennis and the road races. All are as popular as ever and as always the Royal Regatta will provide some excellent competition. Then there are a host of fun events such as the water polo, a trolley grand prix, fete, proms, barrel rolling, waiter and waitresses races, crab fishing, bowls, waterborne treasure hunt, pavement artists, tug of war, colouring competition, golf, darts, and musical entertainment.
Subject to CAA approval, the Regatta committee is pleased to announce that the BBMF Lancaster and RAF Typhoon will both be displaying on the Friday and Saturday of this years regatta. Timing are yet to be confirmed but are expected to take place around 6pm on both days. The Reds Arrows will not be performing a full display but will fly past on Friday evening. Other aerobatic highlights usually include the appearance of a Chinook rescue helicopter and a display from a Eurofighter Typhoon.
Regatta fireworks displays take place on Thursday & Saturday evenings, though timings are yet to be announced. The fireworks are launched from a barge on the river making for a spectacular display over the River Dart estuary.
There is so much for children of all ages to take part in, including crabbing competitions, colouring competitions, pavement painting and more. Timings will be announched shortly. There will also be a funfair at Mayors Avenue Car Park for all rides and attractions. Over the weekend there is a shopping village located at Coronation Park showcasing local produce, arts and crafts. Tempt yourself with delicious local food stalls and pop up bars, both in Coronation park and alon Royal Avenue Gardens.
