Twice a year the South Devon Railway celebrate with a feast of steam and diesel trains – and our famous beer and cider festival too! Our Summer Rails and Ales will be held over the August Bank Holiday Weekend – 28th to 31st August.
Trains will be running all day with departures from each end of the line (Buckfastleigh and Totnes) at frequent intervals throughout the day.
At Buckfastleigh, our London Transport Routemaster bus runs trips to Buckfast Abbey and along to Ashburton, the original terminus of our line, the garden railway and all our usual attractions, from the museum to the gardens and gift shop, are be open.
At Staverton, our midway point on the line, the beer and cider festival is in full swing, usually from 11am until late (please check the event details for confirmed times), offering a great selection of different ales, craft beers and ciders to enjoy from Devon Diesel Society’s award-winning bar.
The Staverton Buffet Coach opens to serve a variety of hot & cold snacks, teas, coffees and soft drinks. Sunday evening is usually quiz night – a just for fun general knowledge quiz.
