Salcombe Gin

With the madness of the festive season behind us, it’s now full steam ahead into 2017, and as January is drawing to a close, we’ve managed to catch our breath for a moment to round up Salcombe Gin’s best moments of 2016, and to update all of our happy gin-lovers on what to look forward to in the coming months.
First and foremost, the entire Salcombe Gin team would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone who made 2016 such an amazing and unforgettable year for us.
Since our first bottle of delicious Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’ was released in July 2016, we have seen over 14,000 bottles fly out the door. Not only has the reception to Salcombe Gin been amazing locally, it’s also made its way around the world, with happy gin-lovers sending us photos from as far afield as New York, Hong Kong and the Bahamas!
Perhaps our proudest moments to date both occurred in one of the weeks leading up to Christmas, when in the space of two days we received our brand-new, beautiful, 450L Arnold Holstein Copper Still, and it was announced that Salcombe Gin had won Gold at the World Drinks Awards! With only a handful of gins world-wide being selected for Gold at these awards, it was fantastic to see Salcombe Gin mixing it with the best in its first year of production!
Provident, our bespoke Holstein Still will be up and running by the end of January, and will be able to produce in a day what it currently takes us a week to produce, whilst retaining the amazing quality that we have quickly become known for.
For our distillery bar, the holiday season saw our busiest fortnight so far, with hundreds of our friends and families enjoying ample S&Ts (Salcombe & Tonics…), Salcombe Gin cocktails, wines, local beers, and locally roasted, fair trade coffee.
With the drinks flowing, Provident glistening in the background, and the very merry atmosphere, it was definitely a jovial time for all, and we hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
So what’s next?
Our Gin School, the ultimate gin experience for the curious gin lover, will be opening its doors in March. Pupils will be guided through the intricate gin-distillation process by our distillers, using traditional methods to create their very own, personalised 70cl bottle of gin. ‘Happy Fridays’ are now in full swing at our distillery bar at The Boathouse on Island Street. Every Friday in January and February (excl. Feb 17th), gin-lovers can make the most of our very popular all-day happy hour. Our fantastic offers include £7 double S&Ts and £8 cocktails, which are sure to blow away even the bleakest of January blues – January’s cocktail of the month, the ‘Flu Jab’, will certainly do the trick!
There are also a number of exciting events to look forward to as we head into the longer, warmer days of spring.
On Saturday 25th February, Salcombe Gin will be attending the Wells Gin Festival at the Town Hall in Wells, Somerset. Along with fellow West Country gins, we will be serving and selling our delicious ‘Start Point’, and we’re looking forward to seeing our gin-lovers who live slightly further afield!
Saturday 25th March sees the annual ‘Delicious Dart Trail’, and Salcombe Gin will be making an appearance at 2 (yes, 2!) locations. You can sign up for this foody fun-run at www.deliciousdarttrail.com and enjoy a couple of thirst quenching S&Ts whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.
Sunday 30th April sees the return of Salcombe’s newest, most exciting annual fundraiser, Salcombe CrabFest. Those who remember last year’s triumph will have fond memories of seafood cooking demonstrations, local produce exhibitions, and of course, an appearance from the wonderful Mary Berry.
We can assure that that Salcombe CrabFest 2017 is set out to be even bigger and better! Salcombe Gin will be heavily involved in this and many more exciting events, so make sure you keep up to date on all of our social media pages (@salcombegin) – watch this space!
