The Kingsbridge Information Centre in the South Hams

Green Statement

Kingsbridge Information Centre is committed to keeping Devon beautiful and promoting responsible, sustainable tourism. We constantly strive to minimise our impact on the environment and encourage visitors to the area to do the same. We are members of the Green Tourism scheme and are striving to acheieve our silver status.

These are the measures we currently take but we are always looking to improve:

  • Get our milk delivered in glass bottles from Dartmouth Dairy

  • Use Fairtrade Coffee and Pukka Tea Bags which are plastic free

  • Refill our Ecover washing up liquid and laundry liquid at Nicholson's on Fore Street

  • Use Ecover toilet cleaner and recycled toilet paper

  • Use microfibre clothes for cleaning

  • Recyle cardboard and paper

  • Post the 'Hello Kingsbridge' guide in paper envelopes

  • Participate in the Refill Devon scheme

  • Promote public transport and outdoor activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, walking etc

  • Co-ordinate a Borrow-A-Bag scheme which operates in the town and use only brown paper bags for small items

  • Work with the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by stocking their literature, featuring them in our guide, on our website and by running a group called 'South Devon Outdoors' where members (mostly outdoor activity providers) must sign a 'Sustainable Charter' to protect the local environment

  • Source products for sale that are wooden, tin, fabric or made from recycled materials

  • Ask suppliers of products for non-plastic packaging both for display and transportation purposes

  • Stock products made locally either by artists or food and drink businesses

  • Encourage visitors to use less plastic during their stay, take part in beach cleans and educate them on the implications of littering the counrtryside and beaches
