Canoeing the Avon Estuary at Aveton Gifford

Distance from the centre of Kingsbridge: 3.3 miles

Launching from Timbers car park around high tide we can make the most of the water to explore.

We will travel first downstream and then turn to paddle upstream.  As the river narrows we will have to negotiate trees to discover the hidden seclusion of the area around the weir.  After a brief look around we can retrace our steps to find the aqueduct and the canal.

Along the way we will stop to look at and discuss the many interesting plants found along the waterway.  Wildlife to be spotted: kingfisher, grey mullet, barn owl, little egret, osprey, deer, swallows, sand martins, house martins
