Beesands

A small fishing village where crab, eel, mackerel and cod have always been the catch of the day.

Behind the beach is the tranquil Widdicombe Ley, and a short walk south along the South West Coast Path are the ruins of Hallsands. Home to over 100 people, one winter’s night in 1917, an easterly gale conincided with an exceptionally high tide and caused the village to collapse into the sea.
