Discovery at Bantham & Bigbury for 2025

It's been a very busy Spring for us at Discovery now that we're operating at 2 beaches!

As of May 2025, we have returned to our roots and will be running surf school operations at Bantham. This will be in addition to our surf school at Bigbury on-Sea.

The opportunity to expand came about as the current Bantham surf school licence was coming to an end, and Discovery successfully tendered to secure this exciting position.

We are absolutely thrilled to be expanding our surf school to include Bantham. It’s a full circle moment for us, as over 20 years ago when we first started the business, we delivered our very first South Devon surf lessons at Bantham.

We love Bantham, and it’s a natural expansion for us, already being based across the river at Bigbury on-Sea, with both beaches having the unique and beautiful backdrop of Burgh Island.

Discovery Surf School has a long established affinity to the area and especially Bantham, Martin learned to surf at Bantham as a young teenager and Annika's Dad Barry Trout was one of the pioneering surfers there back in the 1960’s.  

Looking at the future, our vision for Discovery Bantham is to use our vast experience to create the same friendly, safe and organically growing surf school at Bantham that we have developed over the last 23 years. We will use this unique opportunity to utilise the amazing surfing conditions on both sides of the river Avon to offer our customers some of the best surfing you can get in the UK.

So what this means for our lovely customers is that we can now offer you surf lessons and equipment hire at 2 locations. We are open everyday and have lessons available at Bigbury and Bantham. We are updating our website regularly so you can see what the conditions are like, and see what lesson availability we have on both sides of the river.

At Half Term we have lots going on including our every popular 5 day Surf Courses - available at Bigbury and Bantham, Family Lessons, Group Lessons, Day Surf Camp (discount for Surf Club members) and equipment hire - surfboards, bodyboards, wetsuits, kayaks and paddle boards.
